The objective of this study was to identify the motivations that lead pupils in the 6th year of secondary school in Kisangani to choose faculties and/or courses of study in higher and university education. We therefore estimated that the motivations behind the choice of faculties and/or courses of study by pupils finishing secondary school in Kisangani are essentially based on the possibility of finding a job at the end of their studies. To test this hypothesis, we administered a questionnaire to 100 sixth-grade students in secondary schools in the commune of Makiso, one of the six communes that make up the city of Kisangani. From the data collected, we proceeded to a frequency count, converted into a percentage. At the end of the analyses, we arrived at the results according to which the motivations which push these pupils to choose these faculties or branches of study are based on the aptitudes which they possess and acquired throughout their current secondary school sections. These results invalidate our hypothesis that the possibility of finding a job is the basis for our respondents’ choice of faculties or fields of study at ESU. Thus, educators need to focus on training so that students develop skills that will help them to pursue further studies.

Par ce travail, nous avons défini comme objectif de cerner les motivations qui poussent les élèves de 6e secondaire de Kisangani à choisir les facultés et/ou les filières d’études à l’enseignement supérieur et universitaire. Partant, nous avons estimés que les motivations à la base du choix des facultés et/ou filières d’études par les élèves finissant le cycle secondaire à Kisangani est essentiellement fondée sur la possibilité de trouver un emploi à la fin des études. Pour vérifier cette hypothèse, nous avons administré un questionnaire auprès de 100 élèves de 6e année des écoles secondaires implantées dans la commune Makiso, une des 6 communes qui composent la ville de Kisangani. Des données collectées, nous avons procédé au décompte fréquentiel, converti en pourcentage. A l’issue des analyses, nous avons abouti aux résultats selon lesquels les motivations qui poussent ces élèves à choisir ces facultés ou filières d’études sont fondées sur les aptitudes qu’ils possèdent et acquises tout au long de leurs sections d’études secondaires actuelles. Ces résultats infirment notre hypothèse selon laquelle la possibilité de trouver un emploi serait à la base du choix des facultés ou filières d’études à l’ESU par nos enquêtés. Ainsi, les éducateurs doivent mettre l’accent sur la formation afin que les élèves développent leurs aptitudes, lesquelles vont les aider à poursuivre leurs études ultérieures.
