This paper presents a theoretical and empirical analysis of the effects of institutional quality on the attractiveness of FDI by the Cameroonian economy. In order to do this, the research attempted to explain the relationship between the variation in the explanatory factors generated on the volume of FDI entering Cameroon through econometric modeling by adopting the VAR (Vector autoregressive modeling) approach for 1996 to 2014. The results of the research revealed a negative and significant effect of corruption and political stability on FDI in Cameroon. Thus, economic policy measures will have to focus, on the one hand, on the stepped-up implementation of the means of combating corruption and on the other hand, the continued maintenance of political stability in Cameroon.

Abstract

Ce papier présente une analyse théorique et empirique des effets de la qualité des institutions sur l’attractivité des IDE par l’économie camerounaise. Pour ce faire, la recherche a tenté d’expliquer la relation entre la variation des facteurs explicatifs suscités sur le volume d’IDE entrant au Cameroun à travers une modélisation économétrique en adoptant l’approche VAR (Modélisation vectorielle autorégressif) pour des séries allant de 1996 à 2014. Les résultats de la recherche ont révélé un effet négatif et significatif de la corruption et de la stabilité politique sur l’IDE au Cameroun. Ainsi, les mesures de politique économique devront être axées d’une part, sur la mise en place accentuée des moyens de lutte contre la corruption et d’autre part, au maintien continu de la stabilité politique au Cameroun.
