Currently, cooperative banks compete with the biggest capitalist financial institutions. In principle, the aims, values and governance of this banking model are not identical to those of conventional capitalist banks mainly oriented towards maximizing short-term financial performance. Indeed, the specific governance of cooperative banks presupposes a much more democratic vocation, equitable and sustainable. The originality of this work lies in the asking milestones or thought on the model of the cooperative bank is still unknown in Morocco despite his international success. More specifically, the objective of this paper is to present the specifics of the cooperative bank and analyze the governance mechanisms it adopts to ensure the balance between the cooperative identity and the economic and financial performance.

Abstract
Currently, cooperative banks compete with the biggest capitalist financial institutions. Indeed, the specific governance of cooperative banks presupposes a much more democratic vocation, equitable and sustainable. Actuellement, les banques coopératives rivalisent avec les plus grandes institutions financières capitalistes. En principe, les finalités, les valeurs et la gouvernance de ce modèle bancaire ne sont pas identiques à celles des banques capitalistes classiques orientées principalement vers la maximisation du rendement financier à court terme. En effet, les spécificités de la gouvernance des banques coopératives présupposent une vocation beaucoup plus démocratique, équitable et durable. L’originalité de ce travail réside dans le fait de poser des jalons ou des pistes de réflexion sur le modèle de la banque coopérative qui demeure encore méconnu au Maroc malgré son succès international. De façon plus spécifique, l’objectif de cette communication est de présenter les particularités de la banque coopérative et analyser les mécanismes de gouvernance qu’elle adopte afin d‘assurer l’équilibre entre l’identité coopérative et la performance économique et financière.
