Agricultural practices in peri-urban areas are an important lever in the struggle against food insecurity and poverty in cities. Despite their great importance, the suburban agriculture lands are constantly threatened by the expansion of the cities in which they are located. The agricultural land that is developing on the outskirts of arrondissements 3 and 4 of the city of Bobo-Dioulasso is illustrative of this situation. Faced with a growing demand for housing space, these reserves of agricultural land are often transformed into housing areas, with enormous consequences. A prospective study carried out according to two scenarios has made it possible to characterise the future evolution of anthropic and natural formations around these two districts by 2029. The first simulation with socio-economic considerations led to a result according to which the conurbation will record an annual progression of 9% to the disadvantage of the surrounding formations. The second projection, based on a planning component, reveals a fairly stable evolution of all the land use units in districts 3 and 4 of the city.

Les pratiques agricoles dans les zones périurbaines constituent un levier important dans la lutte contre l’insécurité alimentaire et la pauvreté vécues dans les villes. En dépit de leur grande importance, ces terres agricoles périurbaines sont constamment menacées par l’extension des villes. Les terres agricoles qui se développement dans les périphéries des arrondissements 3 et 4 de la ville de Bobo-Dioulasso sont illustratives de cette situation. Face à une demande croissante en espace d’habitation, ces réserves de terres à vocation agricole se transforment le plus souvent en zones d’habitation dont les corollaires sont énormes. Une étude prospective menée suivant deux scénarios a permis de caractériser les évolutions futures des formations anthropiques et naturelles autour de ces deux arrondissements à l’horizon 2029. La première simulation à considérations socioéconomiques a débouché sur un résultat selon lequel l’agglomération enregistrera une progression annuelle de 9 % au détriment des formations environnantes. La seconde projection réalisée suivant un volet aménagement révèle plutôt une évolution assez stable de l’ensemble des unités d’utilisation et d’occupation des terres dans les arrondissements 3 et 4 de la ville.
