[ Conduite à tenir face à l’absence d’une incisive latérale supérieure ]

The absence of the superior lateral incisor (agenesis, trauma, caries, periodontal disease) is problematic towards the therapeutic decision, which is often multidisciplinary. The choice of the appropriate treatment plan depends mainly on the availability of the space of this tooth on the arch. So we will have mainly 3 options: - To open the space by an orthodontic treatment before the prosthetic rehabilitation (implant, bridge ..) - Or to close the space by orthodontic traction of the canine that will undergo a modification by subtraction or coronoplasty to simulate the anatomy of a lateral incisor. - Or even to abstain when it comes to symmetrical bilateral absence that does not affect the aesthetics of the individual. This review of the literature summarizes possible approaches to replace the upper lateral incisor and the decision factors of these therapeutic approaches.

L’absence de l’incisive latérale supérieure (agénésie, traumatisme, carie, parodontopathie) pose des problèmes quant à la décision thérapeutique qui est souvent pluridisciplinaire. Le choix du plan de traitement adéquat dépend principalement de la disponibilité de l’espace de cette dent sur l’arcade. Ainsi on sera amené : - Soit à ouvrir l’espace par un traitement orthodontique avant la réhabilitation prothétique (implant, bridge .. ) - Soit à fermer l’espace par traction orthodontique de la canine qui subira une modification par soustraction ou coronoplastie afin de simuler l’anatomie d’une incisive latérale. - Soit s’abstenir quand il s’agit d’absence bilatérale symétrique n’affectant pas l’esthétique de l’individu. Ce travail de revue de littérature résume les conduites à tenir possibles à prendre face à l’édentement de l’incisive latérale supérieure et les facteurs de décisions de ces approches thérapeutiques.
